When Polk County residents think of doctors whose offices are in Lakeland, they’re likely to assume those doctors only serve on the staff of Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
That’s not always the case, however. Bartow Regional Medical Center, which steadily recruits physicians, has some whose offices are in South Lakeland but who only practice at Bartow Regional. And others who maintain privileges at both hospitals.
That was readily apparent when Bartow Regional held an open house Tuesday night for Dr. Rafael Quinones, its newest surgeon. His Elite Surgical Associates practice shares a building with Dr. Stanley Shrom, urologist at UroCare. That office is at 3644 Innovation Drive, right next door to Favilli Family Practice, where Dr. Luis Favilli and two other doctors practice.
All told, I discovered there are nine doctors affiliated with Bartow Regional in buildings located on Innovation Drive, which is off U.S.s 98 (Bartow Highway) just south of Barry Motor Sports.
Favilli and several others are on both medical staffs. Quinones said he expects he’ll have enough patients to keep him busy at BRMC alone. Shrom also is exclusively with BRMC.
I may not be able to call it an enclave much longer if Lakeland increasingly becomes less of a foreign territory for Bartow Regional doctors.
