Patient Safety

The leadership of Bartow Regional Medical Center places high priority on patient safety and has implemented a comprehensive patient safety program with the goal of preventing healthcare
errors. The POP (Protect Our Patients) Committee oversees the program and reviews patient care processes and systems, patient care staffing, equipment and the environment of care.

The emphasis of the patient safety program is that of creating a culture of safety and open communication in a combined effort to prevent healthcare errors. The POP Committee also coordinates the education of staff, patients and the community on topics related to the prevention of healthcare errors. Patient responsibilities in relation to patient safety include the
following:

• Educate yourself about your diagnosis, medical tests you are undergoing and your treatment plan

• Pay attention to the care you are receiving

• Ask questions about your care, and if you don’t understand, ask again

• Know your medications and why you are taking them and ask to have changes explained to you

• Please use caution while moving around and ask for assistance to prevent falls
